In the context of Nepal where load shedding is a part of our lives, netbooks with long laptop battery life are lifesavers. When there is so much to do and so little time, having these handy gadgets makes things easier.

They are also small and weigh less, which makes them easy to carry around. The cherry on the top is that they are relatively cheaper than most laptops.

“The only flaw with these gadgets is that they do not have very high computing power. If you want to do heavy graphic designing or video editing, you need to have a laptop,” Suresh Kayastha of Ocean Computers said.

Netbooks have long battery life. ASUS models like Eee PC 1001HA and Eee PC 1005PE, and X340 and U160 by MSI have dell laptop battery life of 8 hours and more. These netbooks are designed for all day computing and are priced so that even college going students can afford it.

The ASUS Eee PC 1001HA has 8 hours battery backup and costs Rs. 45,000. Its features include Intel Atom Processor/1.6 GHz, 1 GB DDR2 RAM (expandable up to 2 GB), 320GB hard drive, 10.2 inch VibrantView TFT display, inbuilt camera, integrated audio with stereo speakers and mic, 3 USB ports, VGA, SD card reader, Intel 802.11 b/g/n Wireless Network Connection and integrated ethernet controller. It weighs only 1.2 kg and comes with one year warranty with spare parts and service.

The Eee PC 1005PE by ASUS has a battery life of 14 hours. It has all the features of Eee PC 1001HA, including the warranty, except it has only 160GB hard drive. It costs Rs 49,000. However, the model will be available in the market only after a few weeks.

Nagmani International is the authorized distributor of ASUS in Nepal. It has outlets in NLIC City Center at Kamalpokhari and PC Paradise at New Baneshwar. It has around 40 dealers in the capital and many more outside the capital.

MSI´s X340 (X-Slim series) has professed asus laptop battery life of up to 9 hours and is available at Rs 58,500. Those buying MSI X340 will also get MSI external DVDR/W worth Rs 5,850 free of cost. The MSI X340 has 1.6 GHz Intel Centrino 2 Core 2 Duo processor SU9600, 800 MHz front side bus aped (FSB), 14 inch TFT display, 320 GB hard drive, 2 GB DDR2 RAM, webcam, Bluetooth, wireless local area network, GB LAN and card reader. It comes with one year warranty with spare parts and service.

MSI´s latest offering U160 netbooks, which has a battery life of 11 hours, is available at Rs 38,800. The netbook weighing just 1 kg has Intel Atom N450 1.6 GHz processor, 1 GB RAM expandable up to 2GB, 250 GB Hard Disk, 10 inch TFT screen, 1.3 mega pixel webcam, Bluetooth, memory card reader. It also comes with one year warranty with spare parts and service.

Ocean Computer is the authorized dealers of MSI products in Nepal. It has a showroom in the fourth floor of Global Bank building at New Road.
